Lai Garling Karen, born in Australia and raised in Hong Kong. She began her textile art journey in London, Chelsea College of Art. She specializes in weaving, an old traditional form of textile production that interlaces two distinct sets of yarn to form a fabric.

In early 2016, Karen had her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong titled, Diminishing Memories. The artworks displayed were a series of tactile family photographs developed from *cyanotype and transferred to her own handwoven textile.

*Cyanotype, an old photographic printing process that requires sunlight

In mid 2016, Karen became a Hong Kong Youth Square art ambassador to travel to Dunhuang. Meeting local artists and conservators who specialize in grottoes art. Since that encounter she started to share her art and cultural journey through her artist Facebook page
